brothers3ministries exists to take the message of Jesus' saving grace to those
who are daily grappling with the demons of drugs and alcohol.

Every single day many people loose this battle to Satan, sometimes at the cost of life.
This was the case for us.
As you move through this site you will come to know more about brothers3, and you will catch a glimpse of our daily life.

What we want you to understand is that no one is hopeless, Jesus is far too good.
We have seen this in our own lives, and you can see it in yours.

Today is February 28th 2008, which is an anniversary of significant importance to my family. It had already been on my mind very much this morning, but more on that in a few minutes. I was having a casual chat with our staff at the church this morning when I received a call from my brother Matt. Being in conversation, I ignored his call, and when I was free I called him back only to get his voicemail. But within about 10 minutes or so he called me back. I could tell by his tone that there was something exciting going on, and I wondered if he hadn’t realized what day it was. Finally, he told me that this morning he had his tryout for the SORT Team or Special Operations Response Team at the prison where he is an officer. The SORT Team is the prison version of a SWAT Team. If there is a riot, or if a prisoner is being disruptive and needs to be extracted from a cell the SORT Team is called, sporting full riot gear. His excitement was driven by the fact that he had been chosen for the team! In March he will venture out to Oklahoma for SORT training where he will go through some extensive scenarios. Several of the exercises are conducted in a gas chamber. He will enter with a gas mask on and just as they do in military training, he will have to break the seal of his mask. He will also have to enter the chamber without a mask and locate a “downed officer/prisoner” and carry him out safely. He then mentioned that he would be sprayed with the high powered pepper spray known as Top Cop up to 4 times. (On the side, I remember watching Matt’s training video when he was in the Academy and seeing him get sprayed and then have to maneuver through the various obstacles…that would be torture, but it was hilarious to watch – I wish I could be in Oklahoma to see this.) Another piece of the training that he will have to undergo or endure is the pepper balls. A pepper ball is the equivalent of a paintball, only it’s not filled with paint – you get the idea. Believe it or not, I think he’s actually looking forward to this. He could have a wire loose somewhere.

So now, what does all of that have to do with the anniversary of significant importance that I first mentioned? Just this, at this very time 6 years ago I received a call that Micah and Matt were in ICU at Kennestone Hospital, clinging to life. Today is the 6th anniversary of Micah’s death from a drug overdose.

Matt spent several days in ICU and the first night the doctors gave him a 50/50 chance of survival. Micah was gone; Matt was teetering on the fence. A collective congregation of friends and family across the country hit its’ knees in prayer and intercession for Matt. He survived!

As we were talking he answered my earlier question concerning the date. He told me as he was beginning his final lap of the mile and half run during his PT test “Don’t Stop Believing” by Journey came on his Ipod, and it was at that point that he realized that this was February 28th. Immediately, a wave of energy and adrenaline surged through his body as he sprinted out the last 400 meters of the run, all the while singing “Don’t stop believing” at the top of his lungs. (Man, I sure hope there were spectators standing around.)

So here we are 6 years later, on the anniversary of the darkest day in my family’s history celebrating. Celebrating; Matt’s achievements, celebrating the grace of a loving Father who didn’t spare his Son, celebrating the God who spared my brother and gave him another shot at life. As I was reading from God’s Word this morning, I was reminded that all things are possible with God. And so I say to you, “Don’t Stop Believing!”
